Cranbourne trainer Greg Eurell has recorded his 1000th winner, with three year-old gelding Helavabel winning on debut at Mornington on Monday.
“It was unexpected, I didn’t even realise it had popped up until the girls reminded me once the horse crossed the line,” Eurell said.
Damien Oliver had traveled to Mornington for the one ride on the son of Bel Esprit and Eurell said the champion jockey had been the difference in getting the debutant over the line.
“Thankfully the man on top is very experienced and he helped him a lot,” he said.
“He had to get a bit of help through the run to still do his best, the horse has got plenty of ability I’m sure stepping up to the 1200m will be much better suited to him.”
Eurell has won nine Group 1 races and recorded his first winner in 1995 with Russian Trader.
